How and when do you choose a glazier?

How and when do you choose a glazier?

The time to choose a glazier is before you have a problem with your glass in your house, the issue is, you never think of doing that before you need to. Actually people who choose a glazier before they need to probably need to get out more as it is very much a precautionary task that isn’t necessary before the event happens.

The paragraph above was a little flippant 🙂 but it is true to say that having access to a trusted maybe even recommended glazier that is local to you is a very good thing to have. Often, I would imagine most of the time actually, people find they need a glazier in an emergency and have no real idea on how to find a glazier that is local, reasonable, professional and can turn up pretty quick because as it is an emergency when a window or glass door breaks it has to be fixed pretty quick.

So my advice is to 1st of all find a list of glaziers in your area and maybe a national glazier and get a quote for the damage you are trying to fix. It is always good to get more than one quote to compare the prices of each of the glaziers. This is good for several reasons, first of all you don’t have any idea how much a window replacement will be so once you get your first quote you can compare that quote with your second and third quote and this also gives you the ability to negotiate with all three of the glaziers. It puts you in a better position of knowledge and information and you can then begin to question how the quote has come to the cost which is always a good thing because it makes the glazier realize you maybe know what you’re talking about. Getting a glazier in to fix your broken window is not always about cost, it is also about getting a good relationship, with I would suggest your local glazier, you could well need him or her again in the future and if the job is not done to your satisfaction you may need it to be done again so a good relationship with the local trades person is always a good thing to have.

So, find the best glazier out of the three you have the quotations from and look at the price and see if you can negotiate a discount but always rely on your gut to help you decide which glazier to go with because it isn’t always the cheapest. It is an ideal situation to choose a glazier or any tradesmen for that matter that you trust because they’re doing an important task for you and there has to be trust there. It is always useful to find out what work they have done in the local area and to go and talk to the people that have that they have done the work for, this is a perfect opportunity for you to find out how they do their work, what the quality is like, how reasonable or cheaper they are, and even how to negotiate with them. This kind of information is in valuable and is far better than you just going on recommendations or Google searches or even your gut,  your gut what always help you but if you can back that up with information from previous client of theirs you probably cannot go wrong.

I went through this process and helped by friend in Fulham to choose a glazier and she chose Fulham Glass 24/7 for her work.

D I Y, is it safe should you do it?

D I Y, is it safe?

Should you do it?

Or would you rather professionals did, well it really depends on how experienced you are quite often, if you have the right tools and how confident you are.

When you buy anything other than a brand-new home there is always work to do and sometimes it is much easier to get a professional or a friend who is very skilled at this particular job to help you because sometimes you can make a bigger mess than you already have got. It really depends if it ain’t the electrics or to do with water so electricity or plumbing it can be quite dangerous. It can be, in the wrong hands so be very careful before you start any work like this , take some advice and read a lot before you start especially at the weekend or late at night as you might not finish it in time before it gets dark and you cannot call anybody out.

Any DIY other than plumbing or electrical work is normally quite simple to do and a good project to start with. Most tools and products you need for the Project are easily obtainable from the local hardware store and are usually quite reasonably priced.

Some DIY projects are actually quite interesting to do and quite rewarding and also can save you a lot of money which is always good :-).

On the subject of electricity and plumbing it is very important to know, where the electrical supply enters the house and the water supply enters the house. These are usually obvious as they are the electrical fuse box and the water main stopcock. At some point or other you will need to turn one of those two things off so you need to find out where they are as soon as you own the house because for sure something will go wrong and you need to turn the power off , all the water off and you don’t want to be running around the house trying to find them when there is an emergency.
